NRL Round 16 Power Rankings

ROUND 16

An interesting week of football and many experts are beginning to say that the teams that will make the Top 8 are already set in stone. There is a 4 point gap between 8 and 9 but it does seem as though those teams can definitely make the 8. Teams at the bottom of the table are now becoming more desperate with each week that goes by. For some players, this will also be their last chance to push for SOO selection as many star players begin to suffer serious injuries. Who is ranked where for Round 16?

Bold = This week  ( ) = Last week

1 (2) Melbourne Storm = No Billy Slater, no worries! The Storm were impressive in their win over Manly at Brookvale Oval. Proved why they are top of the table this season. Have another tough game this weekend against the Bulldogs.

2 (1) West Tigers = Were obviously effected by the sad passing of Farrah's mother. Can not hold that against them at all. Their 7 game winning steak does come to an end now.

3 (3) Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs = Were great against the Dragons early. Was a little scary there towards the end of the game as the Dragons started to gain momentum. Are definitely a team to be recognised. Have now won 4 in a row and will have to prove their worth this weekend against the Storm.

(6) Cronulla Sharks = Were down by 12 against the Warriors without Gallen. Fought back hard and won the game by 1 point in the final few minutes. Keep saying it, but this is a different Sharks team for previous. Will now enjoy a week off after a very tough win.

5 (7) Gold Coast Titans = Beat the Panthers in the first half by blowing them off the field. They did fight back late but the damage was already done. Unfortunately they picked up a few injuries to some key players

6 (9) South Sydney Rabbitohs = Faced a Parramatta team that was high on confidence after a last start win. Had a few players missing but got the job done. They were great in defence, but in saying that, they didn't have a lot thrown at them.

7 (4) Brisbane Broncos = Were missing a few players but were still unable to score any points against the Cowboys. Host the Bunnies this week on Friday night which see's 3 v 4 on the competition table. Will have to show better effort this week.

8 (10) North Queensland Cowboys = A great win against the Broncos at home, even if they weren't facing their best team. They fought very hard and did keep a very good attacking team to nil. This is the Cowboys team that we are capable of seeing each week.

9 (5) NZ Warriors = Two weeks in a row they have held a two try lead and had that taken away. They weren't so lucky this week to win the game. Payed the price for not putting away their opponent when they had the momentum. Luckily the have a Bye to regroup.

10 (8) Manly Warringah Sea Eagles = Brookvale Oval, MNF, Storm returning since the famous brawl and they were missing Slater. But they still couldn't get the job done. Obviously effected by losing Glenn Stewart but they were their own worst enemies. Scoreline was flattering in the end.

11 (11) St George Illawarra Dragons = Third consecutive week in this position and those same questions are still being asked. Their attack struggles to find any fluency. Now their defence is being broken down. Season defining game this weekend against the Titans.

12 (13) Canberra Raiders = Enjoyed the week off but perhaps that win against the Knights was definitely something they can build on. If not, they may as well starting booking their end of season trip. Come up against the Cowboys away from home in a tough game.

13 (14) Sydney Roosters = Played very well against a team which was obviously rattled due to personal reasons. Regardless of their opposition, they are capable of such performances on a regular basis. Need to make it 2 in a row against Manly at home.

14 (12) Penrith Panthers = Struggled again this week up against the Titans. Obviously it didn't help with a few injuries before kickoff. Were good at points. Their season is seriously on the slide. Must win game against Parramatta

15 (15) Parramatta Eels = After a win people were suggesting a run similar to 2009, but a loss to the Rabbits has people questioning when the coach will go. If their season isn't already over, it will be with a loss to the Panthers on Saturday night.

16 (16) Newcastle Knights = A week out of the spotlight with a Bye, but they now need to fire this week. The coach is safe, but people are now questioning whether or not he can get them back on track. Not playing until MNF and should be ready to fire against the Tigers.
